Delhi's fourth women CM

As the Leader of the House in the Delhi Assembly, she is set to become the fourth woman chief minister of Delhi, following in the footsteps of Sushma Swaraj, Sheila Dikshit, and Atishi. Additionally, she will be the fourth BJP chief minister in Delhi, after Madan Lal Khurana, Sahib Singh Verma, and Sushma Swaraj.

'Thank the top leadership'

"I thank the top leadership from my heart for its belief in me for entrusting me with the post of chief minister. This faith and support have evoked a new energy and motivation in me. I pledge to strive with total honesty, commitment and dedication for the welfare of the residents of Delhi. First time MLA Rekha Gupta with PM Modi

Rekha Gupta has been announced as next chief minister of Delhi, marking the BJP's comeback in the national capital after 27 years. She is first time MLA to be designated as Delhi fourth women Chief Minister.

Swearing in ceremony

The newly formed BJP government, with Gupta as the chief minister and her council of ministers, will be sworn in at a grand ceremony at Ramlila Maidan on Thursday afternoon, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries in attendance.

Three time councillor

She was elected as a councillor three times – from 2007-2012, 2012-2017, and again for Shalimar Bagh from 2022-2025. During her tenure as the head of the Women Welfare and Child Development Committee, she spearheaded several empowerment campaigns focused on women's issues.

Launched Sumedha Yojana for students

After being elected as a councillor from North Pitampura in 2007, Gupta worked for the welfare of women and children. She launched initiatives like the Sumedha Yojana, which supported economically weaker female students in pursuing higher education.

Headed BJP women wing

Gupta has been associated with the RSS for 32 years, started her political career in 1992 with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at Delhi University's Daulat Ram College. She joined the BJP and took on key roles, including serving as the national secretary of the party’s youth wing. She has also headed the BJP's women’s wing in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

From Haryana to advocate and now CM

She was born in Haryana's Julana, Gupta is a BCom graduate from Delhi University's Daulat Ram College. She later earned a law degree from Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut, and also practised as an advocate.

Became DUSU president

She started her political journey in 1992 through the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at Daulat Ram College, Delhi University. In 1996-97, she became President of the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU).

Shalimar Bagh MLA

Rekha Gupta won the Shalimar Bagh constituency in the Delhi assembly elections, defeating AAP's Bandana Kumari by 29,595 votes.
