NEW DELHI: Govt Saturday appointed Telangana cadre IAS officer, Sanjay Jaju, as the new information and broadcasting (I&B) secretary. Current I&B secretary Apurva Chandra, who was holding additional charge of health, has been appointed as health secretary.

Chandra, Maharashtra cadre IAS officer, got additional charge of health secretary after his predecessor Sudhansh Pant went back to Rajasthan as chief secretary after change of guard in the state.

Appointment of Jaju (1992 batch) gains significance considering govt’s thrust to take the achievements of its work to the people ahead of Lok Sabha polls. Jaju is currently serving in Telangana and returns to the Centre after a gap of 15 months.

The Appointments Committee of Cabinet also approved posting of eight other senior officers in different central govt departments and in anti-corruption ombudsman Lokpal. S S Sandhu (IAS-1998), who retired as Uttarakhand chief secretary last month, has been named secretary to Lokpal on contract basis for one year. Ashish Kumar Bhutani (IAS-1992) of Assam-Meghalaya cadre will be secretary of cooperation ministry.

UT cadre IAS of 1990 batch, Raj Kumar Goyal, has been appointed as secretary, department of border management, and legal affairs secretary Niten Chandra will now be secretary, department of ex-servicemen welfare. K Moses Chalai from Manipur cadre has been named secretary of Inter State Council Secretariat under the home ministry.
