Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have intensified efforts to track down terrorists in the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri. The joint police and army operations began late Wednesday night in the Gursai top area of Poonch, following intelligence about terrorist movements in the region.
According to officials, security personnel confronted a group of terrorists near the Mohri Shahstar area, leading to a brief exchange of gunfire as the militants attempted to flee into the forest. "Reinforcements were rushed, and a massive search operation is now underway," the officials said. Drones, sniffer dogs, and a helicopter have been deployed to assist in the operation.
Simultaneously, security forces launched a separate cordon-and-search operation in the Shadra Sharief area of Rajouri district after receiving reports of suspected terrorist movement early Thursday morning. "The search is ongoing, but no contact has been established with the terrorists so far," officials confirmed.
In a separate development, Lieutenant General Navin Sachdeva, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the White Knight Corps, visited Doda district to assess the security situation and the military's readiness following recent terrorist incidents. The GOC, along with officers from the Counter-Insurgency Force Delta, visited Sohanda to review ongoing counter-insurgency operations.
In a post on X, the White Knight Corps praised the commitment of its personnel, stating, "GOC appreciated the unwavering dedication of all ranks towards maintaining peace and security in the region."
The operations in Poonch, Rajouri, and Doda are part of ongoing efforts to curb terrorist activities and ensure stability in the border regions.
