Silchar Assam Lok Sabha Election 2024: Date of voting, result, candidates, main parties, schedule

NEW DELHI: Silchar Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 14 Lok Sabha (parliamentary) constituencies in the state of Assam. It is composed of the following assembly segments namely Lakhipur, Udharbond, Katigorah, Barkhola, Silchar, Sonai and Dholai.

Candidates

In Silchar (SC), the Trinamool Congress has fielded former MP Radheshyam Biswas as its candidate. Biswas won from the Karimganj Lok Sabha constituency in 2014 as an AIUDF candidate.

However, last month, he joined the Trinamool Congress and was nominated as a candidate of the party in the presence of TMC Rajya Sabha member Sushmita Dev.

While the BJP candidate Parimal Suklabaidya, will contest against Surjya Kanta Sarkar, the youth leader and district general secretary of the Congress party.

In the first phase of polls held on Friday, Assam recorded a voter turnout of 75.95% across five parliamentary constituencies in the state.

In the 2019 elections, the Silchar parliamentary constituency had a total of 1,195,720 electors, with 949,696 valid votes cast. Rajdeep Roy, the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate, emerged victorious, securing a total of 499,414 votes while, Sushmita Dev, the Indian National Congress candidate, came in second with a total of 417,818 votes, trailing by 81,596 votes.

Voting date and result
The Silchar Lok Sabha constituency is scheduled to vote on 26th April 2024, with the Election Commission announcing results on 4th June, as per their statement on March 16.
