NEW DELHI: Prominent political leaders gather to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation, as January 30 marks the anniversary of his assassination by Nathuram Godse in 1948.

President Droupadi Murmu paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at the Sarva Dharma Prarthana Sabha held at Rajghat, on Martyrs’ Day,

PM Narendra Modi, vice president Jagdeep Dhankhar, home minister Amit Shah, defence minister Rajnath Singh, minister of housing and urban affairs Manohar lal Khattar, MoS defence Sanjay Seth, chief of defence staff general Anil Chauhan, and chiefs of the army, navy, and air force and others were also present at the solemn occasion and also paid tribute to the freedom fighter.

PM Modi, took to social media platform X, stating, “Tributes to Pujya Bapu on his Punya Tithi. His ideals motivate us to build a developed India. I also pay tributes to all those martyred for our nation and recall their service as well as sacrifices.”


In a post, home minister Amit Shah paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary, recognising him as the central figure of the Indian freedom movement. He highlighted Gandhi's global promotion of the values of truth, non-violence, and the fight against injustice.

Rajnath Singh also praised Bapu for his idea of non violence.


Manohar Lal Khattar also paid his humble tribute to Bapu, saying that he dedicated his life to Swaraj, Swadeshi and cleanliness,

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Lok Sabha member Rahul Gandhi also paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at the Gandhi Memorial at Raj Ghat.

The leader of opposition said that Gandhiji was not just a person rather the soul of India, “and is alive in every Indian even today.”

Malikarjun Kharge also paid his tribute by quoting Gandhi, ““You can shackle me, you can torture me, you can even destroy this body, but you cannot imprison my mind.””


AAP chief Arving Kejriwal also paid tribute saying, “Bapu's life teaches us that no matter how powerful the unjust person is, if you are on the right path, then confront him fearlessly.”

India observes Martyrs' Day on January 30 each year to mark the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and honour his immense contribution to the country’s freedom struggle.

According to an official release cited by news agency ANI, an exhibition will be inaugurated today at 3:00 PM by Tara Gandhi Bhattacharjee, Mahatma Gandhi’s granddaughter and Chairman of the National Gandhi Museum, at the museum’s Exhibition Hall in Rajghat, New Delhi.
