Sushma Swaraj's faux-pas: Condoles Mahasweta Devi's death praising books of another author

Revered author and social activist, Mahasweta Devi, passed away at the age of 90 on Thursday. Her demise was condoled by all prominent leaders of the country. But one condolence definitely stood out. External affairs minister, Sushma Swaraj, paid condolence to the writer, but quoted books from another Bengali author. As soon as she tweeted the incorrect names of Mahasweta Devi's books, she became the object of backlash on Twitter.



Both 'Pratham Pratishruti' and 'Bakul Katha' which Swaraj mentions in the tweet are by Ashapurna Devi.

Mahasweta Devi's acclaimed works include 'Hajar Churashir Ma' (Mother of 1084), 'Aranyer Adhikar' (Right to the Forest, 'Jhansir Rani' (The Queen of Jhansi), 'Agnigarbha' (The Fire Within), 'Rudali', and 'Sidhu Kanhur Daakey'.

Though the minister later deleted the incorrect tweet, she perhaps forgot that Twitterati never forgets or forgives.
