It’s not just celeb shaadis that are looking identical, couples from across the country have borrowed the ‘viral’ template

Soon after the wedding photos of Bollywood couple Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani were released, a meme started doing the rounds with a collage of celebrity nuptial photos. "Shahi paneer, paneer pasanda, paneer lababdar, kadhai paneer," read the caption, an obvious dig at the sameness of their looks much like how paneer gravies taste in restaurants.

Even when the designers, stylists and photographers are different, they all seem to be churning out a dreamy, homogenised aesthetic in pale hues with no nod to the diverse cultural backgrounds of the bride and groom. “It’s like the celebrities are copying from one another or maybe the designers are dictating their choices,” says Gaurang Shah, a Hyderabad-based designer who specialises in wedding wear.
