NEW DELHI: In Assam's Tihu, BJP's Chandramohan Patowary won the assembly elections of 2026 against Congress' Ratul Patowary with a margin of 26,496 votes.
Exit polls had suggested a decisive edge for the incumbent government led by
Himanta Biswa Sarma, with most agencies predicting that the Bharatiya Janata Party is on course to win a third straight term in Assam.
Voting for all 126 constituencies took place on April 9, with turnout exceeding 85%—among the highest seen in recent years.
Importantly, the strong voter participation was evident not only in rural regions but also in urban areas, indicating widespread and energetic engagement from voters across the state.
Tihu Assembly Constituency is one of the 126 Assembly constituencies in Assam and is a newly created seat formed during the 2023 delimitation exercise.
Located in Nalbari district, the Tihu constituency has been carved out primarily from areas that earlier fell under the Dharmapur Assembly seat. A significant portion of the old Dharmapur constituency now forms part of Tihu.
Before the redrawing of boundaries, Dharmapur was represented by BJP leader Chandra Mohan Patowary, who remains a key political figure in the region following the reorganisation.
