(IPFT) for upcoming Tripura assembly elections. According to the seat-sharing plan, BJP will contest in 51 of the 60 seats leaving the remaining nine for IPFT.

The state goes to polls on February 18. BJP-IPFT is all set to come together and go all out to oust the Left Front government which has been in power since 1993.

IPFT supremo NC Debbarma told TOI that in the final meeting of seat sharing in Guwahati a few days ago, IPFT and BJP were considering to put up a common candidate in Korbok constituency. “Now it has been decided that BJP will exclusively fight in this seat and so our share has come down to nine,” he said.

The nine seats allotted to IPFT are Simna, Mandai, Takarjala, Ampi Nagra, Manu (South), Raima Valley, Ramchandraghat, Asharam Bari and Kanchanpur, all of which are reserved for ST and fall under the tribal autonomous area, where there are 20 seats in total. BJP’s share includes 11 of these tribal seats apart from the remaining 40 in the other areas.
