Umesh Pal Murder case: Who was Asad, son of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed killed in Jhansi encounter

NEW DELHI: Gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed's son Asad was killed in an encounter with Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force in Jhansi, police said on Thursday.

Asad was killed along with Ghulam, both of whom were wanted in the Umesh Pal murder case of Prayagraj. The police said that foreign-made weapons were recovered.

Umesh Pal, a key witness in the 2005 murder case of then BSP MLA Raju Pal, and his two police security guards were shot dead outside his home in Prayagraj's Dhoomanganj area on February 24 this year.

• Asad had been caught on camera opening fire at Umesh Pal in Dhoomanganj in Prayagraj on February 24. The encounter took place on a day when Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf are being produced in court in Prayagraj.
• According to police officials Asad's was extensively involved in the crime. Asad emerged as the central figure, the "go-to-man" in the shootout.
• Asad used to operate from Lucknow, where he completed his high school.
