The virtual world can be as fake as you want your story to be
I have been stalking Deepika Padukone’s Insta page daily for over a month now, ever since the beautiful movie star left her 53 million followers stunned by deleting all her posts on New Year’s Eve. Everyone thought someone had played truant, that her account had been hacked even as she holidayed with husband, actor Ranveer Singh, in Ranthambore. But soon enough, it was revealed Padukone was fully in the loop. But why would a celebrity with a gargantuan following wipe out her social media trail?
Padukone is hardly the first celebrity to cancel out her feed. Sushant Singh Rajput had deleted his posts after a film had flopped. Miley Cyrus, Blake Lively and Taylor Swift had cleaned their slate too. Sometimes the reasons were personal, a bad film or a bad break-up, but often they were to bring on all eyeballs and announce a mega paid partnership. In Padukone’s case, it’s said to be her audio diary. The highest paid female actor is rumoured to have been signed on by an audio podcast company. Although no one will argue that Padukone is so much easier on the eye than the ear.
