Why opt for natural hair dye solutions?

Manufactured or traditional hair dyes available in the market may contain toxic and damaging chemicals that have the potential to uproot our cuticles. From getting hair dye at a salon or applying a temporary colour spray, traditional methods of dyeing with manufactured products are not a healthier way of maintaining the glow of your locks. However, applying natural hair dyes with items already present at home can bring a natural shine, prevent your tresses from damage, and make your overall look healthy and fresh.

Carrot juice

Try carrot juice to achieve a reddish-orange tint, depending on the hair colour you already have.
Step 1: Take 2 cups of carrot juice and mix it with a carrier oil like almond or coconut oil.
Step 2: Apply this mixture equally to your hair strands.
Step 3: Wrap your hair with a plastic bag or sheet, and let the colour set for at least an hour.
Step 4: Rinse off with apple cider vinegar, and repeat the process the following day for a stronger effect.

Henna

Henna is a temporary, natural, plant-based dye that’s traditionally used to create tattoos directly on the skin. It is also used to dye your hair red.
Step 1: Mix ½ cup of henna with ¼ cup of water and stir the mixture well.
Step 2: Cover the mixture with plastic wrap and let it sit for 12 hours.
Step 3: Also, apply coconut oil along the hairline so that the henna won’t stain your skin.
Step 4: Apply this mixture in small sections and dampen your hair until all of it is covered.
Step 5: Let the colour develop for at least two hours, and then wash it off with your usual shampoo and conditioner.

Beetroot juice

Craving a deeper red tint with cooler undertones? Opt for the beet juice instead of the carrot juice.
Step 1: Mix beet juice with carrier oil, and apply this mixture liberally to your hair strands.
Step 2: Let the mixture set for an hour, and then wash it out.
Step 3: Repeat this step twice a week for some time and notice the change.

Lemon juice

Lemon juice can strip your hair pigment slowly and lighten the strands over time. It is best used to achieve sun-kissed highlights naturally with brown and brunette shading.Step 1: Pour lemon juice into a spray bottle and make equal sections to apply.
Step 2: Use a comb to spread it evenly through your hair strands.
Step 3: Sit outside under the sun for optimal results, and leave the lemon juice for at least an hour.
Step 4: Wash it out and do this several times to get the desired result.

Coffee

A cup of brewed coffee can help you dye your hair a shade or two darker. It may also help cover up some grey hair.

Step 1: Brew a strong cup of dark-roasted coffee and mix ½ cup of coffee with 2 tablespoons of coffee grounds and 1 cup of leave-in hair conditioner.

Step 2: Apply this mixture to clean and damp hair, and then let it set for at least an hour.

Step 3: Wash it out when you’re done, and repeat it if necessary.

Does dyeing your hair damage it?

Dyeing hair can lead to cosmetic and health-related side effects, including hair damage, split ends, and extreme dryness. The harsh chemicals present in the manufactured dyeing products consist of ammonia and hydrogen peroxide, which can cause skin rashes, itching, and asthma issues as well. Therefore, an increasing number of people are shifting towards natural options.
