Grey hair, which was once seen as a sign of ageing, is now showing up in the 20s, and people are pointing fingers at pollution, genetics, overuse of products, overstyling, and more, which are definitely true. So, if you’re done using overpriced products, start trying DIY recipes, among which using curry leaves on grey hair tops the list. But the real question remains: can it actually reverse grey hair, or is it just another myth?

Curry leaves are rich in B vitamins and antioxidants, which are usually linked to hair health. They reduce the oxidative stress, which is a major factor behind premature grey hair. It is believed that curry leaves also support melanin production, which helps in turning your grey strands to black. Well, there’s no strong evidence proving that curry leaves can reverse grey hair, but if pigment cells are inactive or gone, then it’s surely working for you.

Even if they don’t fully reverse grey locks, curry leaves surely strengthen hair roots with amino acids, improve scalp health because of anti-inflammatory properties, help maintain natural hair tone, and also add shine, while reducing issues of dryness.

For making this hair mask, you will need 15-20 fresh curry leaves and 2 tablespoons of coconut oil. Just heat the coconut oil and add curry leaves to it. Leave it until it slightly turns dark, and then cool and strain it. Now, gently massage it into the scalp and hair, leave it for 2 hours, and then wash with mild shampoo. Use this twice or thrice a week.

Understand one thing that our hair colour cannot change after it grows out of the follicle naturally. So, any type of reversal would require restoring the pigment inside the follicle, which is a complex process and cannot be naturally done using curry leaf oil. This remedy surely supports scalp health, improves your hair quality, and slows further greying, but it is not a miracle cure for sure.
