Newly shaved? These 5 hair-care rules will keep your bald look flawless

Think shaved means low effort?

A bald head is the new fashion - whether it’s by choice, a tough look, or from making a dignified surrender in the battle against hair loss, one still needs to tend to the skin up there. Not having hair does not mean that you have a free pass, but the rules simply change, and a simpler routine is introduced. So, if you’re ready to embrace the bald avatar, stop scratching your head and start this routine today.

2/6

Moisturise your scalp every day

Your scalp is now an extension of your face and needs all the right nourishment it can get. You need to think of your above-the-neck skincare regimen and now include the top part, which makes up the entire dome. Hydrate the skin up top and keep it light with a moisturiser so that you don’t suffocate those pores, which can lead to excess sweating and pimples. You can also opt for a designated bald-head hydrator or even use a facial moisturiser.

Keep it clean at all times

You now have to balance between a shampoo and a facial cleanser. If you’re using the shampoo, then pick one that is especially hydrating. But, if you want a cleanser, then make sure it’s indeed dedicated to the face and not to the body. You can use cleansers with salicylic acid for a reason, as it helps temper the oil levels in the skin and prevents excess shine down the road, helping in exfoliation as well.

SPF is more important than ever

Your dome is now completely exposed to the sun, where scalp sunburns are genuinely the worst kind. With moisturisation and cleansing, the scalp is also now like your face and needs the same care that your face requires, which means application of a good SPF. Opt for a lightweight formulation that prevents the occurrence of pimples.

Do not forget to exfoliate

If you want a shining and smooth finish, then a scalp scrub goes a long way in keeping the head smooth, which also prevents breakouts. This step removes the dead skin and prevents clogged pores, which significantly lowers the chances of dandruff and also any fungal proliferation. You can also consider using a chemical exfoliant and cleansing with an exfoliating wash every day, which will help you achieve the same goal.

Use an antifungal product at least twice a month

Even if your scalp is not experiencing dryness or flakiness, the unexpected dandruff move can happen anytime, especially when your scalp is peeling and flaking already. If you exfoliate every day and use an antifungal shampoo at least twice a month, just to neutralise any potential fungal build-ups, then you prevent any risk. It’s quite easy to get one of these in the market, but if you want one, then see if the product has ketoconazole or zinc pyrithione in it.
