​Books that are getting a series adaptations in 2021

With a new year comes a lot of new releases, across all platforms of entertainment. A lot a TV shows and webseries this year are releasing which are based on books. Many readers prefer books adapted into series rather than movies for the long format can do better justice to some books, particularly book series. Here are some to look forward to this year:

The Overstory by Richard Powers

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are best known for adapting George RR Martin's 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series for screen. And now, news is that Benioff and Weiss will also develop a web-series based on American novelist Richard Powers' novel 'The Overstory'. According to Variety, Richard Robbins has penned the pilot script and he will also serve as an executive producer for the show. 'Benioff and Weiss will serve as executive producers for the series under their sizable Netflix overall deal. Actor Hugh Jackman will also executive produce along with Bernie Caulfield of Benioff and Weiss's Bighead Littlehead production banner. Powers is set to serve as co-executive producer,' reads a report by ANI. Richard Powers won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 2019 for 'The Overstory'. The novel follows the story of five trees and their unique experiences with nine Americans; together they address the issue of forest destruction.

Starting in the 70ies, we follow two teenagers from the flower power generation who are friends throughout the ups and downs of life. This book will be a show, not a movie, and will star Katherine Heigl, Sarah Chalke and Ben Lawson

Dune by Frank Herbert

This book was also long due an adaptation. The sci fi classic was first published in 1965 and won both a Hugo and Nebula award. The protagonist is Paul Atreides, whose family gets control of the only planet that can produce a rare material and he tries to take their business to the next level.

The story is so expansive that all previous attempts to fit it in a movie have failed. The director Denis Villeneuve is directing a two-part film series which will have a companion TV show called Dune: The Sisterhood.

Timothée Chalamet will play Paul Atreides and his co stars will be Jason Momoa, Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgärd, Zendaya, and Oscar Isaac

​Nine Perfect Strangers by Liane Moriarty

Liane Moriarty's 'Big Little Lies' did really well as a TV show and no doubt her creepy book set in a beautiful wellness center will find many fans in the 'Big Little Lies' fanbase.

With Nicole Kidman, Melissa McCarthy, Luke Evans, and Samara Weaving, the production seems to be quite star studded.

This is the second Sally Rooney book to be adapted. While 'Normal People' was a romance, this book is more of love quadrangle, involving affairs and messy feelings. It will be directed by the director of 'Normal People', Lenny Abrahamson

Set in the same magical world as Leigh Bardugo's many books, 'Shadow and Bone' is about Alina Starkov, a soldier in the kingdom of Ravka with magical powers.

The show will star Ben Barnes, Jessie Mei Li, Freddy Carter, Danielle Galligan, and Kit Young
