Practical tips to get through a boring book

Books can prove to be extremely interesting and intriguing, provided they are well written and connect to the readers. It also depends on the likes and dislikes of the readers that they find something interesting or not. While some books successfully manage to keep the reader engrossed, others fail terribly in doing so. However, what to do when finishing such a book is the only option you have? Neither you can put it away nor is it possible to sail through it. If you are also struggling with a boring book, here are some practical tips for you.

2/7

Be clear on why you want to read that book

Ask yourself why you are reading that boring book. Is it going to help improve your personality? Or is it by your favorite author? Try to be clear about your objective behind reading the book. Questioning yourself will make your mind more conscious and aware, which will eventually help you focus more.

3/7

Become interested in the times and circumstances in which the book was written

Some people learn to take an interest in the background story, which makes the book much more interesting. Before diving deep into the book, learn a little bit about the history that surrounds the story and the author who wrote it. Do a bit of research online, watch a few videos about the topic, and you will approach the book with a different frame of mind.

4/7

Try listening to it in an audio format

While reading a book, there is a certain amount of psychological resistance that you need to overcome with each new page. But this can be dealt with if you decide to go through the book in an audiobook format. You can listen to it while doing chores, working out, or commuting.

5/7

Read the book when you are relaxed and well-rested

After studying or working for a whole day, the idea of reading a boring book is sure to terrify you. That's why it is best to read such books in the morning when you are wide awake and alert.

6/7

Keep the distractions at bay

There is no doubt about the fact that you have hundreds of more interesting things to do than reading a boring book. You could chat with your friends, scroll through your social media profiles, or binge-watch the latest web series. That’s why, during your reading sessions, put your phone in airplane mode, and block all the other distractions. Go to a library or your secret spot in the park if necessary.

7/7

Reward yourself after completing yet another chapter

Making a deal with yourself is a great idea to keep you on track. For each section of the boring book that you read, you can give yourself a small reward. For example, you could watch one episode of your favorite show, spend 30 minutes playing a video game, or eat one delicious cookie that’s currently sitting in your drawer.
