Friedrich Nietzsche was one of the most famous thinkers of all times. He was born in 1844, in Röcken, Germany. His father was a pastor named Carl Ludwig Nietzsche. His mother was Franziska. The father died in 1849, from a brain illness. Friedrich was four years old. The family moved to Naumburg. He went to Pforta school from 1858 to 1864. He studied Latin and Greek there. He did well. He went to Bonn University in 1864 for theology but left. He studied philology at Leipzig University. He read Schopenhauer's book in 1865. It changed his ideas about life.
In April 1869, at age 24, Basel University made him a professor of classical philology. He was the youngest ever to hold that position. He taught about Homer and old texts. He wrote The Birth of Tragedy in 1872. The book says Greek art mixed wild energy from Dionysus and calm order from Apollo. This made tragedy great. Wagner was an example.. He wrote Untimely Meditations from 1873 to 1876. There are four parts. One says too much history stops action. Another says scholars collect facts but do not live. He had bad health. He had migraines, eye problems, and stomach pain. He quit Basel in 1879. He traveled in the Alps and Italy.
In 1881, he had the idea of eternal return. What if life repeats exactly forever? He wrote Daybreak in 1881. He wrote The Gay Science in 1882. It says "God is dead. We killed him."He wrote Thus Spoke Zarathustra from 1883 to 1885. It has four parts. A man comes down from a mountain. He says people must become the overman. The overman makes new values. There are three steps: camel carries rules, lion says no, child creates. Will to power is the main force in life. It means using strength to grow. In Beyond Good and Evil (1886), he says slave morality is bad. Weak people call the strong evil. Christians do this. In On the Genealogy of Morality (1887), he explains how guilt comes from held-back anger. In 1888, he wrote Twilight of the Idols. It attacks old ideas. The Antichrist says Christianity makes people weak. Ecce Homo is about his own life. He says why his books are good.
His writing style uses short sayings called aphorisms. They hit hard and fast. Examples: "He who has a why to live can bear almost any how." Or "What does not kill me makes me stronger." He uses rhythm like the Bible. Sentences build then strike. He mixes poems and talks. It feels direct and strong. He uses pictures like life as a tightrope over an empty space. His philosophy says God is gone. This leaves nothing. Nihilism comes. The answer is the overman. He lives on earth and says yes to life. Love your fate. Truth depends on your view. No one truth for all. Democracy and equality make everyone average and weak. Strong people should lead and create.
He died in 1900, at age 55.
Quote of the dayOne of his most famous quotes, "The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently" is from The Antichrist, section 44, in 1888.
This quote means one clear thing. The worst way to ruin a young person is to teach them to like people who agree with them more than people who disagree. Young people have new ideas. They ask questions. They can grow strong. If you tell them to value agreement first, they get weak. They stay in groups where everyone thinks the same. They do not learn from others. This makes them copy others. They fear different ideas. They stop thinking for themselves. Nietzsche saw this in schools and churches. They teach fit in. Christians say love people like you. This kills new thought. People in history who thought different got hurt. Socrates was killed for questions. Nietzsche lost friends when he changed ideas. Wagner stopped liking him. This made Nietzsche better. The good way is to value different thinkers most. They challenge you. They make you stronger. Like iron sharpened by iron. Sameness makes you soft.
Nietzsche's idea of eternal return fits. If life repeats, same thoughts would be boring forever. Different ones make it good.
Today, social media does this. You follow people like you. Apps show more of the same. Schools want group work. This corrupts youth. It makes flat people. To fix it, let young people meet different views. Let them argue. This builds the overman. He creates from fights. The quote warns teachers and parents. Prize difference. Or you make slaves.
