May the fourth be with you

So much has changed over the past few years in the Star Wars faniverse since Disney bought Lucusfilm, one of the hardest blows being that all the old books were decanonized. Still one can’t be a Sci-fi fan if their mind can’t imagine the concept of alternate realities, so pick up one of these books and set off to a galaxy far far away.

Tales of the Bounty Hunters

A collection of five stories, the back story of each of the 5 bounty hunters seen on The Executor in the film The Empire Strikes Back. Good if you’re in the mood for short stories rather than a whole book and want to learn more about different characters in the galaxy rather than the main ones.

Han Solo Trilogy by A. C. Crispin

The title says it all; this is a series that follows the life of our favourite handsome rouge before the events of the original series. It starts around adolescence and follows his hard life, many adventures and even his love interests, everything that made him that loveable scoundrel we see in the movies.

The Courtship of Princess Leia by Dave Wolverton

This one made the New York Times Bestseller list and has gotten good reviews from hardcore fans despite sounding like a romance. It follows the main three characters several years after the war. Han tries to win back Leia's affection as she's swayed by another man and Luke tries to spread the message of the Force.

The Truce at Bakura by Kathy Tyers

A lovely sequel to Return of the Jedi, this book follows the main characters during the aftermath of the war, trying to bring order to the galaxy. The characterisation and the interactions between the characters is praised as it shows the effects of all the movie’s revelations on the characters psyche post-war.

Bounty Hunter Wars Trilogy by K. W. Jeter

If you didn’t get enough of Boba Fett this series is a must. The series is set after Return of the Jedi but the narrative contains several flashbacks to what he was doing during the movies as well, providing great insight into his backstory.

Star Wars: X-wing Series

A series of 10 books written by Michael A. Stackpole and Aaron Allston(each wrote separate novels, they didn’t write together) The series doesn’t follow any of the main characters but has an interesting set of new ones.

Shadows of the Empire by Steve Perry

A story set between the films The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, the tale doesn’t just have novel but it has a comic, a video game and a soundtrack! It gives you an insightful look inside Vader's and Leia's mind.

Jedi Academy Trilogy by Kevin J. Anderson

A great place to start with Star Wars books, the trilogy picks off a little after original movie trilogy ends and it centres on Luke Skywalker and his attempt to start a new Jedi Academy. Lots of characters from the movies have roles or make cameos.
