Write India started off with a simple idea in a meeting and soon saw the coming together of 11 best-selling Indian authors for the contest. A year later with 25,000 stories, it became the biggest ever writing movement. Write India concluded on a grand note with a starry event held in November 2016 in Mumbai.

Nainesh A Jadwani's story which was based on author Chetan Bhagat's prompt got the top prize for Season 1. Nainesh is a software engineer by profession and a writer, cyclist, and music lover by choice. He lives in Mumbai.

Sutapa Basu won the first position for Write India's first author Amish. She is a writer, poet and publishing consultant based in New Delhi. Since she wrote for Write India, she has had a novel published. She also writes for children.

Tishampati Sen got two prizes in Write India Season 1. He got the first prize for author Ravi Subramanian and third prize for author Chetan Bhagat. Tishampati is a lawyer based in New Delhi. Write India gave him the opportunity to bring out his creativity in a more disciplined manner, within the framework provided by the accomplished authors.

Ravinder Singh awards Vasudha Chandna Gulati

Vasudha Chandna Gulati became a Write India winner twice in Season 1. She first won the third position for her story based on author Ravinder Singh's prompt the first position for author Anita Nair. Being evaluated on a nation-wide scale was her way of understanding if she had what it takes.

Prapti Panda became the youngest Write India winner of Season 1 at the age of 14, as her story based on author Ravi Subramanian's prompt on infidelity won the second prize. It's not surprising that she loves to write.

Dr Roshan Radhakrishan's story, a sci-fi thriller about a girl with two hearts, based on author Durjoy Datta's prompt won the top prize in Season 1. He is an anesthesiologist from Kannur. He believes in the healing power of love and laughter. Forty of his short stories and articles have been published in anthologies, journals, and online magazines.

Aarati Shah's story on a love-triangle was based on author Tuhin A Sinha's prompt which won her the top prize in Season 1. She is a voracious reader from Mumbai. She loves thrillers, horror, science fiction, and crime stories. Currently she is trying to write a crime-thriller.
