Natasha Poonawalla brings Parsi Gara to the Met Gala in futuristic couture by Manish Malhotra
Natasha Poonawalla is no stranger to serving extravagant looks. While many attendees might play it safe with tailored gowns or the season's favourite diamond-studded gowns, you can always count on the fashion prowess of Natasha Poonawalla to bring the drama to the Met Gala’s fashion carpet.
Met Gala 2025 LIVE Updates: Shah Rukh Khan strikes his signature pose; Kiara Advani debuts baby bump with her first appearance
Choosing a chic avant-garde couture from Manish Malhotra’s selection, she once again redefined fashion boundaries and made a bold statement, blending global fashion with a hint of Indian tradition.
Her ensemble featured intricate Indian Gara embroidery, a craft having roots in Parsi heritage that has now elevated to high fashion status. Opting for a futuristic silhouette, the design focused on keeping a peplum waist with a sculptural collar having pearl droplet details. Diving deep into the regal palette of purple and ivory, the designer created a majestic contrast.
From the intricate embellishments to the embroidery, the whole couture was a medium of storytelling. It featured tiny motifs of flora, fauna, human figures, mirror accessories, and traditional Indian accents, where each thread was a tribute to India’s rich culture and heritage.
The statement piece echoed the essence of dandyism, with a nod to European tailoring, and clearly abided by this year’s theme. However, this is not it, as the back of the gown came with an iconic trail featuring embroidered black silk that added grandeur and grace to the overall look.
Accentuating her swan-like neck, the sheer collar resembled a blooming lotus and was decorated with pearls suspended like raindrops. Giving something to look at and think about post-event, the whole couture looked like a celestial dream.
Representing Indian roots on the esteemed carpet, Natasha Poonawalla’s spellbound glance proved why she’s a global icon extraordinaire and took the gilded glamour to an all-new level this year.
