With love, from Indian couture

From Falguni Shane Peacock to Dolly J, here are the dreamiest gowns and lehengas spotting from India Couture Week 2022.

Falguni Shane Peacock

The collection was influenced by the rich French tapestries and artworks from Renaissance period. The designs in the collection had a story that began to unfold from the inspiration that was taken from Art Nouveau and the magnitude of French architecture where the elements were married to the Indian architectural facets like the minarets, archways, and domes, amongst others.

JJ Valaya

The show marked the completion of 30 years of JJ Valaya. His collection ALMA was inspired by his travel to Spain. His collection was a retrospect of his 30 years of designing career and had lehengas from previous collections reinterpreted to suit the modern sensibility.

Varun Bahl

The collection put a spin on traditional Indian silhouettes while taking a leap forward from traditional wedding couture and exploring the new way in which global couture is moving. Hence, making for pieces that are not only experimental and international but also make for iconic collectibles. New Leaf oscillates between Indian wedding wear and red carpet looks with a more global appeal that breaks away from the conventions and rigidity of traditional couture.

Dolly J

Dolly J showcased an awe-inspiring collection in the form of Meraki. The collection owed its conception to the fluidity that exists within the serenity, a certain stillness which brings about monumental change: a metamorphosis. In the same way, a butterfly undertakes a period of undisturbed self-possession before it emerges from the cocoon, this collection inspired a tranquility which is foundational for growth and progress. With golden hues, fluid textures and dramatic cascades spangled with motifs of change, Meraki proved to be a tribute to the period of introspection which lies at the heart of transformation.

6/6

Rahul Mishra

His pieces featured fabrics that were handwoven at villages in India. There were 2D and 3D embroidery work that were done with hands for over 10,000 human hours. Despite heavy embellishments done on the clothing, they were lightweight and looked effortless as the models sauntered down the ramp wearing Mishra's artwork.
