The pinky finger is having a distinctly regal revival, with signet rings re-emerging as a subtle yet powerful marker of legacy and personal style. Spotted on Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi during the Wuthering Heights pre-tour, the accessory is quietly reclaiming cultural relevance. From Dua Lipa to Dwayne Johnson and Harry Styles, celebrities are embracing the signet ring not just for its traditional utility, but as an aesthetic statement that seamlessly blends heritage with contemporary style.

An official stamp, now a statement piece

Signet rings, crafted in gold, silver or platinum, are defined by a flat surface and engraved with patterns like initials, emblems or family crests. In ancient times, they were worn on the pinky finger by noblemen and used as stamps to seal a letter — acting as official signature. However, these legal stamps have gradually evolved into status symbols and gender-neutral accessories that can also be worn on any finger along with other rings or worn on multiple fingers.

Yash Kataria, director, Kataria Jewellers, says, “Today, clients are increasingly interested in pieces that are meaningful and timeless.” Queenie Singh, founder, Jewels by Queenie, adds, “People today choose jewellery that reflects confidence without excess. A signet carries authority in a restrained way, which aligns with how modern luxury is worn.”

Signet rings go contemporary

Contemporary designers are giving signet rings a modern touch. “Minimalistic signet rings typically have delicate shapes, smooth surfaces, with little designs. These rings come in a range of metals that fuse traditional craftsmanship with modern techniques,” says Hudke. High-end jewellery brands are also offering bespoke design services. Today, those who don’t have family crests are seeking personalised signet rings with symbolic engravings that have a backstory, making this piece of ancient jewellery more accessible than ever.
