Most Absurd Influencer Outfits That Killed Festival Fashion

Remember when Coachella was actually about the music? Yeah, me neither. But for the longest time, it was at least the undisputed mecca of festival fashion—a dusty, sun-drenched "Influencer Met Gala."

Well, fast forward to weekend one of 2026, and the desert has officially transformed into a sartorial crime scene. We are miles past the era of effortless boho-chic. Now? Our feeds are choking on a sea of influencers wearing the exact same outfit, all while desperately staring into their ring lights, claiming they have the most unique fit on the polo field.

It’s exhausting. If you want to chronicle the sudden, tragic death of festival style, look no further. Here are five of the most low-effort, absurd, and genuinely confusing outfits that celebrities and influencers subjected us to this year.

The Great Western Hostage Situation

Let’s get one thing straight. The western aesthetic has been held hostage at Coachella for years, and it’s painfully obvious nobody intends to negotiate its release. This year, it wasn’t even a trend. It was a uniform.

You quite literally couldn't throw a stone near the VIP tent without hitting an influencer in the exact same getup: suede fringe boots, leather micro hot pants, and a wildly thick cummerbund belt slung awkwardly low on the hips. When everyone looks like they bought the exact same "Desert Cowgirl" starter pack on Amazon, it stops being fashion. It’s just a highly coordinated surrender.

A Glue Gun and Pure Panic

Then we have Kylie Jenner. Nothing screams "I forgot I was attending a highly photographed global event until an hour ago" quite like her attempt at a Y2K revival.

Kylie showed up in a white bedazzled bra top dripping with ridiculously long, sparkly fringe. She paired it with basic jeans. Zero accessories. No styling nuance whatsoever. It looked suspiciously like a last-minute hotel room DIY project involving a hot glue gun and a whole lot of sheer panic.

The Gentrification of the Saree

We’ve already had the collective internet shouting match about the rampant festival misuse of bindis and jhumkas. But 2026 brought a new flavor of absurdity. Influencers suddenly claimed they were finally going to "do South Asian representation right." Spoiler alert: They did the exact opposite.

What we got were outfits consisting of western mini skirts and crop tops, with a random piece of fabric haphazardly tossed over one shoulder to vaguely mimic a dupatta. Calling that a saree is a tragedy. Honestly, it’s the sartorial equivalent of gentrification.

The Runaway Vegas Bachelorette

Camila Cabello usually takes big swings, which you have to respect. But her all-white ensemble was a masterclass in wearing the right outfit to the completely wrong venue. She stepped out in a white corset top featuring lace trim, paired with a wrap-around silk skirt boasting a fringe hemline. On their own, the pieces aren't awful. But styled together in stark white amidst the dust and grime of a desert music festival? She didn't look like a headlining pop star. She looked exactly like a bride who got separated from her bachelorette party on the Vegas strip and wandered onto the polo fields by mistake.

Just Popping Out for Oat Milk

On the extreme opposite end of trying way too hard is not trying at all. Enter Amber Rose. Amber arrived at one of the internet's most aggressively styled, hyper-visible events wearing sloppy, distressed denim shorts and a basic, light gray ribbed tank top. Look, comfort is obviously key when you’re surviving the desert heat. But when you attend an event whose entire modern cultural relevance hinges on visual packaging and taking massive fashion risks, looking like you just stepped out to buy a carton of oat milk is a wildly underwhelming choice. Festival style is flatlining, folks. Let’s hope weekend two brings a defibrillator.
