The darling of the fall runway, leather is trend du jour of this season too... The year end is upon us, bringing its share of office and home parties, New Year bashes and other revelry. Dressing up will be numero uno on the mind and leather can make for the denim replacement. Not just for bikers and bad girls, leather looks great in tops, dresses and skirts for everyone.
Rock chic, romantic or dark goth, here’s how to get party-ready with it…
The smarter LBD: Don’t want to wear the plain old little black dress? Do an edgier take on it and try an all-leather outfit this time. Go with minimal accessories and heels to match.
For an office party: Step into a neat leather pencil skirt in shades of grey and wear a printed silk blouse with it.
Lacy n sexy: Lace is an apt go-to fabric when you’re unsure about what to wear. A top or blouse in peach, black or white lace can work well with a leather jacket. Try an updo hairstyle with it.
To go with a graphic print: Wear a super-slim leather belt with your graphic or geometric print dress. Try bright red lips or orange lipstick and a clutch to a match on a monochrome number and you’re done!
With winter white: In embroidery, beads, sequins or textured, white is the season’s dressiest. Go for a white leather on a white top with loads of metal jewellery and metal and leather stilettos.
Over your skinnies: For a day party, team black skinny jeans with a T-shirt and throw on a white leather jacket and a metal chain.
Pop colour look: Neon and brights are in, so mix bright jacket with tangerine, bright pink or yellow and a pair of nude heels to match.
5 Fashion no-nos: -Bootcut or skintight leather pants can look tacky.
-Avoid too much. One piece, either in a jacket or pants or a clutch, works.
-Don’t pile on the layering. A sheer dress over leather trousers that allows layering without looking bulky, is nice.
-Leather shorts are a big no-no, unless you have a subtle top and are thin enough.
-Overbright is overkill. So, while colours look nice, settle for peach or light blue leather and avoid brights.
