Importance of ancient food rules

We are what we eat. This is one of the oldest words of wisdom we have grown up hearing. And hence, it is very important that we pay attention to what, when, and how we eat. Science and Ayurveda have defined many ancient food rules, keeping the human body clock in mind. In a recent post on Instagram, celebrity nutritionist Shweta Shah mentioned about five such ancient food rules and explained the logic behind them. Take a look.

Wheat rule


As per Shweta, it is better to use wheat that is minimum 3+ months old, rolled with a little castor oil. It is better, because fresh wheat is hard to digest.

Rice rule



One should eat aged rice (1 year old), and avoid new rice. Wondering why? It is so because old rice is lighter and better for digestion.

Ghee rule

Aged ghee or purana ghee is used like medicine in Ayurveda and is used for healing and detoxification.

Jaggery rule



It is best to use at least 1-year-old jaggery, as the new jaggery heats the body and upsets digestion.

Leafy veggies rule



It is suggested to avoid leafy veggies in monsoon and on Ekadashi, Chaudas, and Aatham. They are tamasic and harder to digest.
