Turmeric is an irreplaceable part of Indian kitchens and is used in almost all types of curries, dal and sabzi. It gives the dish a bright colour which makes it visually appealing. Turmeric is known for its countless health benefits and medicinal properties. It contains a compound called curcumin, which is not only responsible for turmeric’s bright yellow colour but also its antioxidant properties. ​Treat flu

With its anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antiviral properties, turmeric is a powerful ingredient that helps in flu treatment. Just mix ¼ tsp turmeric with 1 cup hot milk, add two pinches of black pepper and drink it right before going to bed at night. Within two days, you will notice your flu getting better. ​Disinfect wounds

Turmeric is known for its healing properties and is a desi remedy to disinfect and treat wounds. Firstly, clean the wound gently with soap and water. Now pat dry the area and sprinkle some turmeric on it. Cover the wound with a band-aid or bandage. Using turmeric will not only prevent infection but will also treat the wound. ​Ward off pests

If you often encounter pests around your plants, then all you need is turmeric and water. Take a small spray bottle and fill it with water, add 1 tbsp turmeric and shake it well to mix it well. Spray this solution directly on the plants and especially the area infested with pests. Repeat the same for 3-4 days to ward off pests completely. (image credits- istock)

​For dandruff and itchy scalp

If you suffer from dandruff quite often, then here is a natural way to treat it. Dandruff is a medical problem that must be treated timely to prevent it from getting worse. Dandruff can cause an itchy scalp and is quite hard to manage. To treat it, just mix 1 tbsp turmeric with 4 tbsp olive oil and apply this mixture on your scalp, especially to cover the roots. Massage gently and leave it on for 20 minutes. Now wash off with a mild shampoo. Repeat this process once or twice a week for a month and you will notice a drastic change. (image credits- istock)

​Treat burns

Turmeric has some amazing healing properties which can even treat burns efficiently. Just mix ½ tsp turmeric with 2 tbsp fresh aloe vera gel and apply this mixture on the burnt area. Leave it on until it dries off completely, then wash it gently with water and wipe clean with a towel. Repeat this twice a day. Make sure you use only fresh aloe vera gel for this purpose, as the cosmetic aloe vera gel might irritate the skin further. (image credits- istock)
