Korean foods for weight loss

Korean cuisine is often referred to as one of the healthiest in the world, thanks to its emphasis on fresh vegetables, fermented foods, and balanced meals. Traditional Korean dishes like kimchi, doenjang (fermented soybean paste), and gochujang (fermented chili paste), are rich in probiotics, fiber, and metabolism-boosting nutrients, making them excellent for weight loss. These fermented foods are proven to improve gut health, enhance digestion, and regulate appetite, which can help prevent overeating. A study published in BMJ Open found that consuming 1–3 servings of kimchi per day was associated with a lower risk of obesity in men too. Importance of fermented Korean food


As per a study, published by the National Library of Medicine, titled Association between kimchi consumption and obesity by BMI and abdominal obesity in Korean adults: a cross-sectional analysis of the Health Examinees study, it is found that consumption of 1–3 servings/day of total kimchi is associated with a lower risk of obesity in men. Baechu kimchi is associated with a lower obesity prevalence in men, and kkakdugi is associated with a lower prevalence of abdominal obesity in both men and women.

Kimchi


It refers to fermented spicy cabbage, which is low in calories and high in fiber, keeping you full for longer. It also uses chilli pepper, which contains capsaicin and helps boost metabolism, and help burn fat. It is rich in probiotics that support gut health and digestion.

How to eat: It is best enjoyed as a side dish, in soups, or mixed into fried rice.

Doenjang


It refers to fermented soybean paste, which is rich in protein & low in calories. It also contains Isoflavones, which helps regulate metabolism and reduce fat accumulation. It is also said to improve digestion and help with better nutrient absorption.

How to eat: It is used in Doenjang Jjigae (Korean soybean paste soup) to enhance its nutritional value and taste

Gochujang



Also known as fermented chili paste, it is rich in Capsaicin, which increases calorie burn. It also helps regulate blood sugar and prevents sudden cravings and overeating.

How to eat: It is best enjoyed when mixed into stir-fries, marinades, or bibimbap.

Makgeolli


This is a fermented rice drink that contains probiotics and supports gut health and digestion. It has less sugar than regular alcohol and makes for a better alternative to beer. It also helps boost metabolism.

This refers to fermented pickled vegetables that are low in calories, crunchy and help satisfy craving. It helps support digestion as it contains beneficial enzymes. The use of fermented garlic and radish in this dish helps boost metabolism and are great for fat loss.

It refers to fermented soybean blocks, which are used to make Doenjang & Ganjang (Soy Sauce). They are high in protein and probiotics that help support digestion and muscle growth. It is also said to help control blood sugar.
How to eat: It is best used in soups, stews, and sauces.
