The winter morning breakfasts have their own magic and Gujaratis thepla make for a healthy and satiating option. The use of seasonal greens also gives a lot of variation to this light, nutritious, and incredibly versatile dish, which can be paired with curd, pickle, or chai. In a recent post on Instagram, Ruchhi Chawda, a clinical dietitian shared seven types of theplas that are under 100 calories and one can easily make them at home. As per her post, theplas aren't just comfort food they can be nutritious, protein-rich and easy on digestion when prepared with the right ingredients. Using whole grains, veggies and seeds, every bite offers the perfect blend of flavor and wellness. They are low in calories, rich in nutrients, high in fibre, support metabolism, good for skin & hair, easy to include in daily meals, and are good for strong bones, the post reads. Bajra Thepla- 90 calories, 2 pieces

Ingredients: 3 tbsp bajra flour, 2 tbsp wheat flour, 1 tbsp curd, 1/4 tsp ajwain, 1/4 tsp turmeric, salt to taste, and 1/2 tsp oil
Method: Mix all the ingredients and add little water to make a soft dough. Roll out theplas and cook on a tawa using 1/2 tsp oil and enjoy.

Beetroot Thepla, 100 calories, 2 small pieces


Ingredients: 4 tbsp wheat flour, 2 tbsp grated beetroot, 1/2 tsp ginger chilli paste, 1/4 tsp sesame seeds, 1/4 tsp turmeric, salt to taste, and 1/2 tsp oil

Method: Mix all ingredients in a bowl. Add water to knead a soft dough. Roll out theplas and cook using 1/2 tsp oil.

Doodhi (Lauki) Thepla, 90 calories, 2 small pieces

Ingredients: 4 tbsp wheat flour, 3 tbsp grated bottle gourd, 1/4 tsp turmeric, 1/2 tsp green chilli paste, salt to taste, and 1/2 tsp oil
Method: Combine lauki, flour, chilli, haldi, and salt. Knead using the moisture of lauki and roll out theplas. Cook on a tawa using 1/2 tsp oil.

Carrot Thepla, 90 calories, 2 pieces


Ingredients: 4 tbsp wheat, 2 tbsp grated carrot, 1/2 tsp green chilli and ginger paste, 1/8 tsp turmeric, salt to taste, and 1/2 tsp oil
Method: Mix flour, carrot, masala, and salt. Add water to knead a soft dough. Roll out theplas and cook on a tawa with 1/2 tsp oil.

Karela Thepla, 90 calories, 2 pieces

Ingredients: 4 tbsp wheat flour, 2 tbsp grated karela, 1/4 tsp turmeric, 1/4 tsp ajwain, 1/2 tsp green chilli paste, salt to taste, and 1/2 tsp oil
Method: Mix flour, karela, masala, ajwain, and salt. Use water to knead the dough. Roll out theplas and cook using 1/2 tsp oil.

Methi Sesame Thepla, 95 calories, 2 pieces


Ingredients: 4 tbsp wheat flour, 1/2 cup chopped methi, 1/4 tsp sesame seeds, 1/4 tsp jeera, 1/8 tsp turmeric powder, 1 tbsp curd, salt to taste, and 1/2 tsp oil.

Method: Mix flour, methi, sesame, curd, and spices. Add water to knead a soft dough. Roll out theplas and cook with enough oil.

Palak Thepla, 90 calories, 2 pieces

Ingredients: 4 tbsp wheat flour, 1/4 cup palak puree, 1/2 tsp green chilli paste, 1/4 tsp cumin, 1/8 tsp turmeric, salt to taste, and oil 1/2 tsp
Method: Mix all the ingredients to knead a soft dough, roll out theplas and cook using oil.
