Relation between food and inflammation

Inflammation is one of the key triggers behind digestive discomfort, bloating, and chronic conditions like IBS or leaky gut. And that's why it is suggested adding anti-inflammatory foods and compounds to daily diets. They help soothe the intestinal lining, reduce irritation, and restore balance to the gut microbiome. Reducing inflammation allows the gut to efficiently absorb nutrients, support immunity, and maintain a healthy barrier against toxins and pathogens. But, did you know there are many healthy-looking foods that are also secretly causing inflammation? Yes, you read it right. Shweta Shah, a celebrity nutritionist recently talked about it in an Instagram post and mentioned foods that look healthy, but may be silently inflaming your gut. As per her post, fruit juices, raw salads, instant oats, protein bars, soy, raw sprouts, even coconut water when eaten wrongly, excessively, or at the wrong time, can trigger bloating, gas, acne, fatigue, insulin spikes & hormonal imbalance. Scroll down to read the details shared by her.

2/8

Oats

As per Shweta, when it is highly processed, flavoured and sugar-loaded, and dry in nature, it causes bloating, heaviness, constipation, and insulin spikes.

3/8

Fruit Juices

In her post, she has explained that packaged as well as fresh juices have high sugar load, lack fiber content and can rapidly spike insulin. They lead to inflammation and hormonal imbalance.

4/8

Raw Salads

While eating salads on a daily basis looks to be a healthy trend,as per Shweta, it weakens digestion as it is too cold, too rough, and is hard to digest. It can cause bloating, gas, and sluggish metabolism.

5/8

Protein Bars/Energy Bars

She also states that energy or protein bars are not good for the human body. While they carry the image of fitness food, in reality they have sugar alcohols, refined syrups, and inflammatory oils that can lead to gas, acne, and fatigue.

6/8

Soy Milk/Soy Products

As per her post, they can disrupt hormones, cause bloating, and increase inflammation in sensitive guts. They often lead to irregular periods, gut discomfort, gas, and hormonal imbalances.

7/8

Sprouts

They are portrayed to be protein-packed but are really hard to digest and can lead to gas, bloating, inflammation, and discomfort, especially when eaten in large quantities or without proper soaking, cooking, or portion control.

8/8

Coconut Water

As per Shweta's post, wrong timing of drinking coconut water can be harmful for the human body and can cause cold, heaviness, and kapha imbalance.
