Harvard doctor talks about importance of breakfast

Breakfast is considered to be the most important meal of the day. As per nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar, skipping breakfast is not a healthy practice. It often leads to consuming more calories later in the day, which often leads to gut health issues. Addressing the same, Dr. Saurabh Sethi, a gastroenterologist trained at AIIMS, Harvard, and Stanford universities, recently shared a list of top 8 breakfasts on Instagram, which he recommends for a healthy gut. Greek yogurt + berries + chia seeds


According to Dr Sethi it is rich in probiotics, antioxidants and omega 3s. It supports microbiome balance and reduces inflammation.

Oatmeal (Steel Cut) + Flaxseed + Slightly Green Banana


It is rich in soluble fiber and prebiotics for good gut bacteria. It stabilizes blood sugar and improves stool consistency.

Veggie Omelette + Multigrain Toast


It is rich in lean protein, complex carbs, and vitamins, which keeps you full, supports gut motility, and provides steady energy, states Dr Sethi.

Eggs + Nitrate-Free, Minimally Processed Chicken or Turkey Sausage + Whole Grain Toast


It is rich in protein, healthy fats, and fiber-rich carbs. According to Dr Sethi, when paired with avocado toast, it makes for an extra nutrient boost.

Idli with Sambar & Coconut chutney



According to Dr Sethi, the use of fermented batter, fiber and plant protein makes it a wholesome meal that is good for gut health and fuels gut bacteria.

Tofu Scramble + Sauteed Veggies


It is a good source of plant-based protein and phytonutrients, high in fiber and easy on digestion, states Dr Sethi.

Whole Grain Avocado Toast

It is rich in fiber, healthy fast and resistant starch, which supports satiety and gut microbial diversity, states Dr Sethi.
