Don’t throw lemon peels; try these 5 ways to reuse these peels

Do you often discard lemon peels after extracting the juice? Then stop and read on as we have curated some interesting ways to reuse these peels in so many effective ways. There’s no denying that lemons are an inseparable part of our daily diet and are extensively used throughout the year. Interestingly, much like lemons, its peel is also loaded with nutrients that can be used in so many useful ways to make life simple. So, read on and follow us through some easy yet effective tips.

2/6

Natural cleaner

Lemon peels have been one of the most used traditional natural cleaners that were used to clean metal utensils and remove age-old stains and rusts. This is because of the high citric acid content, which acts as an effective antibacterial and antiseptic agent. Apart from that, the citric acid in lemon peels helps in melting down the grease, stains, and revives the shine of utensils.

Lemon peels can be used as a scrubber by drizzling some liquid wash, and cleaning the utensils with them can help in gently removing the stains. Another easy way to use it is by placing the lemon peels in a large container filled with vinegar. Let it sit for about two weeks, shaking the jar occasionally. Strain the mixture and use it as an all-purpose cleaner for countertops, sinks and other surfaces.

Lemon peel tea

Lemon peel has beneficial compounds like flavonoids and vitamin C, which makes it a great addition to the tea. Brewing tea with dried lemon peels is an excellent way to reap the health benefits of the peel, which include boosting digestion, reducing inflammation, and supporting immune health. To make this tea, boil water and add a few lemon peel strips. Let it steep for 5 to 10 minutes, then strain and drink. Just sweeten the tea with honey or add a few mint leaves for extra flavor. This tea is perfect for healing sore throat, cold, cough, and congestion. Moreover, this lemon peel tea can be used for effective weight loss and also improves metabolic health.

4/6

Lemon zest

Lemon peels can be used in creating a zest, which can be made by grating the outer peel of a lemon. This peel extract is then sun dried, and this can be stored in an airtight container, which can be added to the soups, baked delights, desserts, drinks, and whatnot! Lemon zest is packed with essential oils and flavor. They contains flavonoids like hesperidin and D-limonene, which combat free radicals and reduce oxidative stress.

5/6

Lemon peel oil

Another interesting way to reuse lemon peel is by adding the dried peels to the regular oil; this adds a nice flavor and taste to the oil. Interestingly, this oil can be used in adding a punch of flavor and taste to salads, marinades, and dressings, to name a few. The efficacy of lemon peel-infused oil depends on the oil it is infused with. This can also be used for skincare routines.

Skin remedies

Lemon peels are packed with antioxidants, which can be incredibly beneficial for your skin. They help brighten, exfoliate, and reduce blemishes. Instead of discarding them, lemon peels can be repurposed into skin care treatments. They can be used as it is to rub the skin or you can combine dried lemon peel powder with sugar or salt, and mix with olive oil or honey. Gently rub the mixture onto your skin to exfoliate and remove dead skin cells. It can also be used to make facial oils or simple toners
