Drinks to soothe an itchy throat

The season is changing all of a sudden, with chilly mornings and evenings, winter is literally knocking on the door. With winters comes minor ailments like cold, cough and sore throat which are difficult to deal with. An achy throat is the worst of all, as it even makes swallowing difficult. If you too often experience a sore throat during the changing season, here are some amazing drinks which you must stick to, not only now but throughout the winter season.

​Ginger tea

An all time favourite tea which is not only flavourful but also cures cold and sore throat. Ginger tea has powerful medicinal properties which relieves itchy throat in a jiffy. You need to ensure that the ginger gets properly infused with the tea, which will provide it with a distinct taste and aroma. Either grate it, pierce it or dice into small pieces to add to your tea.

​Turmeric milk

Turmeric is known for its powerful antioxidants properties. It not only heals wounds but also fights off several infections. Drinking hot turmeric tea for a sore throat is enough to cure it within 1-2 days. You can also add pepper and cinnamon sticks in the tea to increase its potency. Apart from drinking tea, you can also add tumeric to a glass of warm water, along with a pinch of salt and gargle before retiring to bed.

If you are a fan of herbal tea, peppermint tea is ideal for you. Peppermint contains menthol, which is an effective decongestant and helps in treating bad throat. Its cooling properties give instant relief. Apart from that, peppermint tea also helps in digestion and induces sleep.

Another herbal tea which is recommended for a sore throat is chamomile tea. Its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and astringent properties makes it a natural healer. It soothes a bad throat and also relieves symptoms of cold. You can relish this flavourful tea by adding some honey to it as well.

Warm soups are a delight during winter days. Be it tomato, sweet corn, mix veg and even spinach, there are a plethora of soup varieties to choose from. Drinking hot soup on an achy throat can somewhat bring relief and also helps in decongesting stuffy noses.
