Quick and easy dessert recipes for diabetics on Rakshabandhan !

Raksha Bandhan is around the corner and it’s that time of the year, when happiness is in the air. The festive season has begun and preparations are in full swing as it is impossible to imagine celebrations without good food. Right from kheer to sweets to snacks the festival of Raksha Bandhan is simply incomplete without scrumptious foods, but if you are a diabetic then eating all this may seem like a distant dream as in India festivals are incomplete without sweets, but eating sugar loaded sweets can also affect the insulin level.

Especially, Rakshabandhan is incomplete without sweets as it is believed that sweets add more sweetness to the bond of love and this is the reason why after tying the rakhi eating sweets has been a quintessential part of the tradition. Well, if your brother or sister is a diabetic and you want to treat them with something sweet but healthy, then here are few ideas to make some healthy homemade delicacies to add sweetness to your relationships.

​Fruit kheer


It is impossible to imagine festivals without kheer, a quintessential element of every indian festival is a kheer. So why go for the sugar laden kheer, when you can make it in a healthy way. Here, you can use dates, jaggery or stevia to make this kheer. For this recipe we have used dates.

To make this easy kheer, take 1 cup dates, remove the seeds and make a smooth blend. In place of water you can add 1 tablespoon rose water to make the blend.

Next heat a saucepan over medium flame and add in 1 litre milk, keep stirring. Allow the milk to reduce to half, then add ½ teaspoon cardamom powder, keep stirring. Then add in the dates syrup. Using the cut and fold method mix nicely after reducing the flame. Then, add 1 cup finely chopped apples and raisins. Turn off the flame and garnish with some saffron strands and dried nuts.

​Dates ladoo


Celebration without ladoo is incomplete and this one is not only a sugar-free ladoo, but at the same time can give you the right boost of immunity.

To make this ladoo take 1 cup dates and remove the seeds and blend them in a blender. To make a smooth paste drizzle some water. In the meantime, heat a pan over medium flame and add 2 tablespoon ghee, add in 2 cups of crushed assorted nuts and dried fruits. Ghee roast them for some time and then add in the dates blend, allowing the mixture to turn thick. Turn off the flame. Once the mixture attains a normal temperature make small ladoos. Enjoy.

​Sesame peanut butter sweet


To make this interesting fusion delight, you need 2 cups of protein-rich peanut butter. Take a pan over medium flame, add in 1 tablespoon butter, then add in 1 cup whilte sesame seeds, toss them nicely and transfer to a plate. To the same pan, add in 2 cups of peanut butter and allow it to melt nicely. Then add in 1 cup desiccated coconut and mix well. Lastly, add the sesame seeds, mix nicely and let it cool.

Transfer to a greased tray, pour the mixture and allow it cool. You can also refrigerate it and serve! If you want to add some sweetness to this dessert, you can add some dried fruits or honey.

​Fruit cream bites


Why go for traditional sweets, when you can make fusion sweets easily and relish them without feeling guilty. To make this enticing dessert, take 2 cups of chopped mixed fruit. Take a large bowl and add 250 grams fresh cream. Make sure the cream you use is chilled for hours. Transfer it to the bowl and add 1 teaspoon of vanilla essence, 3 tablespoon raw honey and whisk it nicely until the mixture turns creamy and frothy. Add in the finely chopped mixed fruits. Grease a tray and transfer this thick fruit mixture to the tray, freeze it for 3 hours cut into squares and relish!

​Apple Rabri


To make this enticing dessert, you just need three essential ingredients and you are good to go! To make this easy dessert you need 1 litre milk, 4 apples, 1 teaspoon cardamom.

Just boil 1 litre milk and keep stirring until it is reduced to half in the meantime, wash and chop the apples and add them to the rabri, then add some cardamom powder and once the rabri turns thick. Turn off the flame and transfer to a serving bowl. Garnish with nuts and saffron strands(optional).
