These side effects of lassi will leave you amazed

It is impossible to think of enjoying the summer season without a chilled glass of sweet lassi topped with nuts or kesar. Made with freshly churned curd and mixed with sugar, fruits, spices and salt, this sweet drink has been a quintessential part of North Indian cuisine, especially during the scorching hot summers. But what if we tell you that this sweet drink is silently harming your health. Here’s all you need to know about some side effects of lassi.

2/6

High on sugar

We often get carried away while indulging in the delightful taste of this desi drink, but one thing that we can not rule out is the usage of excessive sugar and full fat milk, which can instantly spike sugar levels and is not great for diabetics.

3/6

High on sodium

Drinking masala lassi or chaas can aggravate underlying kidney issues, this is due to the presence of excessive sodium in terms of spices and salts. The excess of spices in this drink can increase the risk of kidney issues and can also interfere with blood pressure levels in the body.

4/6

Weight gain

Yes, as much as we love drinking this soul satiating drink during summers to keep the body calm and cool, the use of full fat milk, sugar, salt and spices can impact your calorie intake and drastically increase your weight if you consume excess lassi especially during the bed time.

The presence of protein in this drink makes it difficult for the body to digest during sleep. Thus, it is best to either make it at home with low fat milk and zero sugar or sugar alternatives or consume it in breakfast so that the body can digest it throughout the day and help you manage weight.

5/6

Triggers skin issues

People suffering from Eczema and other skin ailments must avoid buttermilk and lassi as they both can trigger skin ailments and can cause a burning sensation, irritation and dryness in the skin.

6/6

Cold, cough and congestion

Drinking lassi at night can also lead to cold, cough and congestion, this is because of its cold potency which aggravates the production of mucus in the body. The presence of mucus causes sluggishness, cold, cough, body pain, congestion, fever and also aggravates respiratory issues like Asthma.
