​Foods habits from different Indian regions


Indian culture is diverse and so is the culinary heritage of this country, so much so that every region boasts of its unique culinary traditions and cuisines. India is the only country which has a vast variety of cuisines and it is literally impossible to imagine the culinary versatility despite using the same spices, herbs, veggies or meat. No wonder, summing up the glory of authentic Indian cuisine is difficult, however what makes it all so wonderful is the harmony in diversity. Here are some of the popular food habits and culinary preferences in different parts of the country. Read on to know more about them…

​Punjabi Food


Punjabi cuisine is one of the most loved parts of North Indian cuisine. Much like the rich and vibrant culture of Punjab, the food too is a brilliant amalgamation of rustic style of Tandoor cooking paired with delicacies made with fresh produce like saags, meat curries, creamy dals and tandoori meat recipes and breads. Interestingly, this cuisine uses a lot of white butter, ghee and butter to make the dishes delicious. No wonder, Punjabis love dairy products and this can be seen in the eating habits where parathas are paired with curd or lassi or even thalis are served with heaps of raita or buttermilk.

​Bengali Food


Bengali cuisine is a delicious melange of spicy, meaty and sweet delicacies that hail from different parts of Bengal and every region has a different palate preference. While some, in the northern part of Bengal the food preference is slightly spicy but in the western part of Bengal the food is usually a little sweet.

From delicious fish, meat and vegetable delicacies to drool worthy sweets, Bengali food is known for its wide variety of sweets and rice based dishes.

​Karnataka


Karnataka food basically falls under the umbrella of South Indian food. However, the delicacies of this region are a mix of simple yet subtle delicacies. The food has elements of the northern part as well as the southern part of South India which makes the food culture so diverse.

Some of the common delicacies are Curd rice, Bisi Bille Bath, Dosai and ragi and other millet based recipes.

​Andhra Food


Andhra food is a treat for spice lovers, this is because most delicacies made in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are high on spice quotient. This is also the region wherein the spice production is high and most traditional foods in this region have a spicy touch. The famous Hyderabadi biryani hails from this region( now in Telangana). Fish, meaty and spicy delicacies are a staple of this region.

​Gujarati Food


Moving on to the west Gujarat has something for every food lover, from delicious Dhokla to Kandvi this region is known for their sumptuous vegetarian food with a subtle hint of sweetness. The cuisine revolves around khata mitha recipes, Gujaratis love their homemade snacks, pickles.

​Tamil Nadu


Tamil Nadu is a quintessential part of South India and much like Tamilian culture, people in this region prefer simple delicacies. Some of the popular delicacies in this region include Sambar, dosai, idli, vaga, Kotthu, pongal to name a few. In Tamil Nadu foods are prepared with subtle spices.
