Here's why this Indian food has been banned from being consumed in Qatar

India exports a lot of ingredients to middle eastern countries and seafood is one of them. Recently, The Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) of Qatar has banned the consumption of fresh and frozen Indian shrimp. The ban has come under the recommendations of the Food Safety committee issued by Ministerial Resolution No 3 in the year 2017 with the exception of frozen shrimps without head and shell except for the tail. The authorities confirmed that frozen Indian shrimp with head and tail removed has been tested in a Kuwait laboratory and approved to be fit for human consumption.

According to this order, the Ministry has appealed to all the consumers that if they have recently purchased fresh & frozen Indian shrimp during the last three days then they should immediately return them to the outlets and if they cannot, then the shrimp should NOT be consumed. The Ministry has also appealed that if they have consumed such shrimp and felt the symptoms of gastro-intestinal infection, then the consumer should visit the nearest health centre.
