Drumstick can be included in daily diet via curry or sambar, and one can also make soups, smoothies or juices.
Why are moringa leaves important too? Also known as "miracle leaves" moringa leaves are a nutritional powerhouse packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. They are rich in vitamin C, vitamin A, iron, calcium, and protein, making them an excellent natural supplement for boosting immunity and improving overall health. The high iron content in moringa leaves helps combat anemia, while their anti-inflammatory properties support joint health and reduce the risk of chronic diseases. These leaves are also helpful in aiding digestion, and they also help regulate blood sugar levels, and promote heart health. They are also known for their detoxifying properties, which help flush out toxins, keeping the body energized and refreshed.
What does study and Ayurveda say? In Ayurveda, drumsticks are known as "Shigru" and are highly valued for their healing and medicinal properties. It is considered tridoshic, meaning it helps balance Vata, Pitta, and Kapha doshas in the body. As per the National Library of Medicine, they are used to cure wounds, pain, ulcers, liver disease, heart disease, cancer, and inflammation. The pharmacological studies confirm the hepatoprotective, cardioprotective, and anti-inflammatory potential of the extracts from the various plant parts. Step 1 Peel and chop the drumsticks and wash them under running water.
Step 2 Soak mustard seeds in water for 10-15 minutes and then wash them.
Step 3 Using a sil-batta grind the mustard seeds, along with garlic and ginger and green chilli into a coarse paste. Step 4 Heat oil in a kadhai. Add mustard oil, cumin seeds and let them splutter.
Step 5 Add the paste along with chopped onion and tomatoes and cook them for 2 minutes.
Step 6 Add the spices and washed drumsticks and diced potatoes. Mix well and cover. Cook for 15-20 minutes.
Step 7 Add 1 cup of boiling water, cover, and cook for another 10 minutes. Adjust the salt, if required.
Step 8 Your Moringa Drumstick Potato Curry is ready. Enjoy it with roti or steamed rice.
