The 'best cuisines of the world' list out

When it comes to global preference for food, Indian cuisine is topping the charts. It’s not about spices anymore, as people are able to see our cuisine differently due to the availability of flavours and varieties. Recently, Bulgarian travel guide Taste Atlas announced its list of ‘Best cuisines in the world’ for the year 2022 and India ranked at fifth spot in this category. Ever since the food website tweeted the list, it has become viral and has got about 44.9 million views and 45k comments and 19k likes. Which cuisine is the best?

It was Italian cuisine that topped this list followed by Greek and Spanish & Japanese at the third and fourth spots. The ranking was based on votes by the audience for ingredients, dishes and beverages.

What did the results say?

According to the results, India got 4.54 points in total out of 5-star ratings and the best-rated foods in India were Garam Masala, Ghee, Malai, Butter Garlic Naan, and Keema among other more than 400 items. Among the best restaurants of 2022, the travel guide mentioned Shree Thaker Bhojanalay (Mumbai), Karavalli (Bangalore), Bukhara (New Delhi), Dum Pukht (New Delhi), Comorin (Gurugram). However, traditional dishes failed to score the top ranks.

Best-rated Indian foods

Among the listed food, Chai Masala (popularly known as Masala Chai), Sweet Lassi, South Indian Coffee, Thandai, Haldi Doodh, Shahi Paneer, Malai Kofta, Paneer Tikka, Butter Chicken, Rasgulla, Masala Dosa, Chole Bhature, Kaju Katli are some of the most popular foods & drinks among others.

Which cuisines ranked lower?

In the list, Chinese cuisine, which is quite popular worldwide, was rated 11th, a choice that confused social media users. Netizens also called out America being ranked at the 8th position as it was placed ahead of France. People were also confused with Thailand's rank at 30th.
