How much do you usually spend on a cup of Masala Chai? From the very basic tapri-wali chai to the deep-brewed Masala Chai at a restaurant, the tea can be priced between INR 10-500. But, have you ever seen a person shelling out more than 500 bucks for a cup of tea?

Well, tea enthusiasts in Dubai are sipping on a cup of Gold Karak Chai, which is a variation of Masala Chai and is being sold at INR 1 lakh. And the reason for the same is that this luxurious tea is served in pure silver teacups and topped with 24-carat gold leaf.

Who made this Gold Karak tea?
The Gold Karak tea is the brainchild of Sucheta Sharma, an Indian-origin woman and the owner of Boho Cafe. Opened last month in DIFC's Emirates Financial Towers, the cafe has gained significant attention online for its extravagant offerings, including gold-dusted croissants and tea adorned with edible gold.

Affordable meets luxury
In an interview with Khaleej Times, Sharma explained the cafe’s dual menu - One offering affordable Indian street food and another showcasing luxurious items. The website quoted Sharma as “We wanted to create something extraordinary for those seeking luxury while also catering to the wider community.”

The price of extravagance
The Gold Karak tea costs 5,000 AED (approximately INR 1.1 lakh). Alongside the tea, customers receive a gold-dusted croissant and silverware, which they can take home as keepsakes. For coffee lovers, the cafe also offers Gold Coffee at a similar price point.

As per reports, for those wanting a touch of gold without the hefty price tag, a gold tea without the silver cup is available for 150 AED (about INR 3,500). Other extravagant menu items include gold-infused water, gold burgers (with vegetarian and cheese options), and gold ice cream.
