Weight loss and festivities

Festivals mean eating, a whole lot at that, and eating a lot of unhealthy food doubled with a lack of physical exercise spells trouble. It is so easy to gain weight, and if only losing all that excess fat was as easy as gaining all of it, the world would be one happier and lazier place. With Navratri in full swing, your goal of losing with will probably be thrown out of the window, unless you are as strong-willed as your trainer thinks you are. To help you out a little with your weight loss goals, here is a list of foods that you should avoid this festive season.

2/7

Mithai

You must be wondering how you can avoid probably the most popular festival food. Short answer - you can’t. But what you can do is avoid going out of your way to buy some for yourself. Your family and friends will force you to have kaju ki barfi or a laddu, so there is nothing you can do there. Refrain from visiting mithai shops and filling your body with excessive sugar and calories.

3/7

Street food

A large part of Navratri festivities are celebrated in the open, which makes it more likely for you to buy some street food to soothe your hunger pangs. Don’t give in to your temptations, and avoid any kind of street food like chaat or momos. They are made of unhealthy substances like maida, salt, and sugar, which will only make it harder for you to shed that evasive tummy fat.

4/7

Snacks

Small bites, whether bought from the market or made at home are very likely to be unhealthy. They are either loaded with sugar, fried or deep fried, or contain a lot of fat. Some of the most popular snacks like samosa, kebab, and kathi rolls are unhealthy and are loaded with calories. Keep these foods at bay, and you’re already one step ahead in your weight loss journey.

5/7

Sauces

As if unhealthy savouries weren’t enough, more often than not they are served with sauces, which can be just as unhealthy. Most commercial sauces are loaded with sugar to add flavour and contain a lot of calories. Sauce is one of the unhealthiest condiments, and be it tomato ketchup or mayonnaise, along with sugar they are also packed with high fructose corn syrup, which is one of the most concentrated forms of sugar.

6/7

Packaged food

Think potato chips and other kinds of fried wafers. These are readily available in most markets and go through heavy processing before being shelved. Most packaged foods are fried, and are loaded with sugar, salt, and other unhealthy additives that make them addictive and unhealthy. It is easy to come across these foods, so you might want to muster up some self control when facing a packet of chips.

7/7

Alcohol

Last but certainly not the least, avoid drinking any alcoholic beverage this Navratri. Not only does it go against traditions, but it also contributes to weight gain. Alcohol is high in calories, and before you know it, you’d have developed a bulging tummy by the end of Navratri. Keep off alcohol, keep of calories, stay fit.
