The summer season is full of surprises, sometimes it brings with it a wave of warm winds and sometimes it is all about a sudden splash of rain that makes the weather humid and harsh.

Well, the various shades of this season are difficult to understand and adapt, but what makes it even more difficult is the impact of this changing weather on our health and fitness; This is because the extreme heat and humidity drains out the water from the body in the form of sweat leaving you dehydrated, which further leads to a distrubed electrolyte balance in the body and indigestion.

Well, the only way to deal with this ever changing weather condition is to keep your body cool and calm, and for that the first and foremost change should be tweaking the diet and adding foods that are enriched with cooling properties. Here are a few spices and their blends that can keep you hydrated naturally.

​Chilled Masala chai


Well, if you are a chai lover then it isn't something usual, but for others drinking milk based Masala chai may seem strange as the both lacoste and caffeine can lead to indigestion. However, you can make your masala chai in such a way that it can simply induce cooling properties in your body and this happens due to the use of certain spices like fennel (saunf) and elaichi (cardamom). Both these spices have cooling properties and can quickly fix stomach ailments. However, too much chai is not good for health, especially in the case of summers. Hence, always add these ingredients to your tea to amp up the health quotient.

​Turmeric milk or tea

Turmeric is rich in an antioxidant called Curcumin, which helps in boosting immunity, heals inflammation and body pain and also helps in healing digestion related ailments. Moreover, this bitter spice helps in calming the body heat and helps in flushing out toxins from the body. You can eat this raw, or add it to your milk or just prepare a healthy tea or kadha. Drinking turmeric based drinks can help in managing the body temperature in a healthy way.

​Mint lime drink

During summers some foods can increase our body heat known as pitta in Ayurveda, but did you know that there are spices that can reduce the reaction of pitta in the body. One such spice is mint, packed with the goodness of menthol and other cooling properties.

This amazing spice can help in reducing the acid reflux, gas, bloating and can build resistance against disease. You can add these leaves to your traditional nimbu pani, lemon mojito, mint, lemon, ginger detox word.

​Fennel detox drink


Fennel is one spice that goes well with each and everything. Moreover, it is one of those spices that can naturally reduce digestive reactions and acid formation due to excessive hot weather. Apart from that, fennel seeds are great in treating common issues like constipation and acidity. To make a perfect fennel detox water, soak 2 tablespoon fennel seeds in some water, overnight. Next morning using a strainer, strain the fennel water, add honey and lemon. This will reduce your stomach ailments along with managing your weight effectively.

Cumin is one of the healthiest spices that can help in healing stomach ailments and can also reduce bloating and constipation. However, drinking cumin based drinks have been a part of our culinary culture as the cooling properties of cumin work as a perfect summer ingredient.
