Benefits of Rosemary, Methi, and Cinnamon Drink

The World Health Organization's report released in the The Lancet on World Diabetes Day has clearly mentioned that the number of adults living with diabetes worldwide has surpassed 800 million, more than quadrupling since 1990. It is also highlighted that the scale of the diabetes epidemic needs an urgent and stronger global action to address both rising disease rates and widening treatment gaps. While a lot is being done experts also suggest that extra care at home can take us a long way. Ayurveda considers the Indian spice box as the humble solution to many health issues and Shweta Shah, a celebrity nutritionist recently took inspiration from it and shared a home remedy that can help reduce sugar levels in the body. Her post reads, "This simple drink can help bring your sugar levels back in control - naturally!" Scroll down to read the details. (Image Courtesy: Instagram/shweta_shah_nutritionist)

What does the study say?

Cinnamon as a warming spice is said to help lower blood sugar and cholesterol levels. As per a study, the consumption of cinnamon is associated with a statistically significant decrease in levels of fasting plasma glucose, total cholesterol, LDL-C, and triglyceride levels, and an increase in HDL-C levels. And when it comes to methi seeds, they are said to be rich in soluble fiber, which slow down the absorption of carbohydrates and further help prevent sudden spikes in glucose after meals. They are also said to contain compounds like 4-hydroxyisoleucine that can improve insulin sensitivity. According to a study titled Effect of Fenugreek on Hyperglycemia: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis, it has been mentioned that seeds of this plant may have an anti-diabetic effect by lowering fasting blood sugar levels and improving glucose tolerance. And according to a study, rosemary extract and its polyphenolic constituents have been reported to have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, and anti-hyperglycemic properties. It is said to help reduce glucose production in hepatocytes, and enhance glucose consumption in cell models.
