Right foods to keep gut healthy

A healthy gut is a sign of a healthy body. It not only boosts the overall digestive health but also helps with the smooth functioning of other parts of the body. And that's why experts suggest paying extra attention to what you eat for your gut health. Stressing the same, Dr. Saurabh Sethi, a gastroenterologist trained at AIIMS, Harvard, and Stanford universities, recently shared a carousel post and talked about 6 common 'healthy' foods that are doing more damage to gut health. Scroll down to find the details.

2/7

Flavoured yogurt

As per Saurabh, it is packed with added sugar, artificial flavour, spikes blood sugar, feeds bad bacteria, and triggers bloating.
Swap For: He suggests consuming plain yogurt with fresh fruits.

3/7

Protein bars

He states that most of them contain sugar alcohols (sorbitol, maltitol) and gums which can lead to gas and bloating.
Swap for: He suggests switching to whole-food protein sources like eggs, tofu, and nuts.

4/7

Flavoured plant-based milks

As per Saurabh, they all have emulsifiers and added sugar, which can weaken gut lining.
Swap for: He suggests switching to unsweetened almond or soy milk

5/7

Granola and breakfast cereals

They are marketed as high-fiber but are loaded with sugar and refined oils, which can lead to insulin spikes and gut inflammation.
Swap for: He suggests adding oats, chia seeds and berries to your daily breakfast.

6/7

Zero-Cal drinks and diet sodas

They are loaded with artificial sweeteners (aspartame, sucralose), which can alter gut microbes, lead to further cravings and cause bloating.

Swap for: He suggests trying sparkling water, lemon or mint.

7/7

Packaged salad dressing

They contain seed oils and additives that fuel gut inflammation.
Swap for: He suggests trying olive oil, lemon, and spices.
