Spices that can help control cholesterol

As per the World Heart Federation, approximately 39 per cent of adults have cholesterol-related problems. The rise in sedentary lifestyles, unhealthy diets high in saturated fats and sugars, and genetic predispositions contribute to cholesterol issues. Excess low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol can accumulate in arteries, forming plaques that lead to atherosclerosis and increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases. While lifestyle modifications, such as regular exercise and adopting a heart-healthy diet, do play pivotal roles in managing cholesterol levels and mitigating the growing threat of this prevalent health issue, several foods are lying in our kitchen that can do wonders in lowering the bad cholesterol. We are talking about the role of spices in curing our health, particularly Methi (fenugreek seeds) and Dalchini (cinnamon). Read more about, how these two spices can help lower the bad cholesterol.

The benefits

Fenugreek seeds contain soluble fibre that aids in cholesterol reduction, while cinnamon is rich in antioxidants that support heart health. Together, they create a synergistic effect, enhancing each other's cholesterol-lowering properties. Fenugreek helps lower LDL (bad) cholesterol, and cinnamon regulates blood sugar levels, preventing the potential rise of cholesterol. Incorporating these spices into your diet, whether through teas, infusions, or culinary uses, can be a flavorful and effective approach to promoting cardiovascular well-being by addressing and managing cholesterol levels.

How to consume?

To control high cholesterol, drinking fenugreek and cinnamon tea or its water is beneficial. Consuming it also helps reduce the risk of heart disease. To prepare cinnamon and fenugreek water, soak one teaspoon of fenugreek seeds in water every evening. Boil it well in the morning, and add one teaspoon of cinnamon powder. After boiling well, filter it and drink it like tea. You can add one teaspoon of honey to increase the sweetness. Consuming fenugreek and cinnamon water is very beneficial in removing the accumulated dirt from the body. The medicinal properties present in it help in detoxifying the body. Drinking fenugreek and cinnamon water regularly removes dirt from the body easily and helps purify the blood.
