Health benefits of ice cream

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream. This used to be a popular tongue twister back in our childhood. However, have you thought of breaking your dietary monotony and indulging in something as breakfast which is usually meant for dessert after dinner? Well, we know how absurd it might sound, but this is true. According to a study held at Kyorin University in Tokyo, those who eat ice cream in the morning as breakfast are comparatively smarter than those who do not. What? Yes, it might be the most delightful piece of news for numerous toddlers and for those having a sweet tooth.

How does it work?

Known to have an ‘awakening’ effect on the mind, ice cream when eaten immediately after waking up in the morning, shocks the brain making it active and helps in increasing the mental capacities. In other words, soon after waking up in the morning, having ice cream gives a significant boost to the mental health and perks up your brain to the level that makes you mentally alert all day long.

What did the study claim?

The researchers at Kyorin University, Tokyo had conducted some experiments to provide a solid ground to prove this unusual study. A group of subjects were given ice cream right after waking up in the morning; whereas the other group of subjects wasn’t given any. According to the researchers, those subjects who had ice cream upon waking up in the morning performed better throughout the day and were more mentally alert than those who were not given the ice cream. However, the study was challenged by some, saying it might be the cold effect that shocks the brain out which makes it mentally alert. The researchers carried out another experiment, this time with the cold water. After the test, it came out that the subjects who were given cold water immediately upon waking up also performed better but not as much as the ones who were given the ice cream.

Is it really about breakfast versus no breakfast?

The fact is undoubtedly true that if you do not have breakfast, you might not be as productive as those who regularly eat breakfast. Talking about indulging in ice cream for the morning meals, the whole game is about the level of glucose in your daily breakfast. According to a renowned nutritional psychology researcher, the foods containing high glucose (sugar) level amp up significantly the mental capacities, in comparison to not eating at all.

Ice cream is equal to happiness

There is something about ice cream that we just cannot stop loving . Ice cream is known to trigger positive emotions in the human mind and activates the pleasure spots in the brain. Makes sense, right? You might have never noticed anyone indulging in ice cream and furious at the same. Did you?

Ice cream is good but a high amount of sugar isn’t

An extra amount of calories in the form of sugar is not a good thing. The coldness of ice cream and sugar level might perk you up, but is not healthy in the long run. The less sugar you eat, the lower is the risk of obesity or other heart diseases. Leaving aside all the facts, if you are heading to an important job interview, presentation or a date, just don’t think about anything else. A spoonful of this sweet happiness won’t harm anyone.
