​What is Pesto?

​Types of Pesto

Apart from the most popular Basil Pesto, there exists a pesto called Pesto Alla Trapanese, which uses tomatoes, garlic, and almonds along with main ingredients. Another variety of pesto is called Pesto Agli Agrumi, which uses lemon juice or orange juice. And, Pesto Rosso uses sundried tomatoes, roasted peppers, and rosemary, along with main ingredients. ​How to make Basil Pesto at home

Wash 500 gms of basil, chop, and add it to the blender jar along with 150 gms Parmesan cheese, and 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil. Blend it into a smooth paste. Your homemade pesto is ready. It has a shelf life of 60 days if refrigerated in an airtight container. (Image: istock)
