5 things people suffering from depression silently want from you

Discussions around mental health have been dodged and evaded for a long time, not just in the public realm but also in the private spheres. While many have tried to address the gravity of the problem, there are still many who are still struggling every day to survive and to live a peaceful life.

Surely, not everyone can pick up signs or handle a person suffering from mental depression, but there are a few small things you could do to relieve their pain and help them rise from their place of darkness.

2/6

To be asked if they're okay

Whenever you find someone in distress or in a state of persistent sadness, irrespective of whether they're suffering from depression or not, ask them if they're okay. While they may or may not respond to it, you never know, they might just feel a tinge of warmth and care.

3/6

The need to feel wanted and loved

Let them know you love them no matter what. Help them understand how important they are to you and remind them of the times they were the most helpful and understanding. This will help them realise their worth in the world and how they can make a difference too.

4/6

To not be judged, but understood

Many times, we tend to look down upon people who are depressed or not in their right state of mind. We naively judge them for what they're suffering from and how they've become. But rather than focusing on their problem, they'd appreciate you understanding their symptoms and the real cause behind their situation. Learn to place yourself in their shoes so as to understand what they're really going through.
5/6

Stay with them even if they don't utter a word

One thing a person dealing with depression would love is to have someone stay with them in times of turmoil. Whether they want to talk or not, leave it upto them. But make it a point to remain close to them and make them feel wanted and loved.

6/6

To re-check on them, even after they've said they're okay

When you ask someone whether they're okay or not, do not leave right away. Just because they say they're fine, doesn't mean they're feeling the same. Make sure you re-check on them and ask them again if they're really doing well. This will give them a sense of relief and may even urge them to express their concerns to you.
