Just doing this for just 20 minutes each day will boost your mood, and no it is NOT exercise!

In the fast paced world we live in today, we seldom get time for ourselves, that in turn, can turn us into sedentary individuals, and eventually, a host of lifestyle ailments like high bp, cholestrol, etc will catch up with us. Even if you hit the gym everyday, a bit of natural light will do wonders for you, and just 20 minutes of sunlight can instantly boost your mood. Here's how.. (make sure you wear enough sunscreen, and choose an early morning slot to prevent sun damage)

2/6

Helps production of antimicrobial peptides

When your skin is exposed to sunlight, especially UV-B rays, it stimulates the production of over 200 microbial peptides. These include important ones like cathelicidins and defensins. These peptides are natural antibiotics your body makes to fight off all sorts of harmful bacteria, viruses, and fungi. They form a first line of defense on your skin and other tissues, helping prevent infections and keeping your immune system strong.

3/6

Strengthens immunity

Sunlight doesn’t just affect your skin; it also influences your immune system. UV radiation from the sun suppresses some parts of the adaptive immune system but activates the innate immune response. This means while certain immune reactions are toned down, your body’s immediate defense against germs is boosted. This balance helps protect you from infections without causing excessive immune reactions.

4/6

Helps your body make Vitamin D

Sunlight is the best natural source of Vitamin D. When UVB rays hit your skin, they convert a cholesterol-related compound into Vitamin D3, the active form of Vitamin D. This vitamin is essential for strong bones, a healthy immune system, and overall well-being. Vitamin D also supports the production of antimicrobial peptides, enhancing your body’s infection-fighting ability.

5/6

Improves mood

Sun exposure helps your brain produce serotonin, a chemical that lifts your mood and increases focus and energy. This can reduce feelings of depression and anxiety. Sunlight also helps regulate your body’s internal clock or circadian rhythm, improving sleep quality. Just 10 to 30 minutes of daily sunlight can make a noticeable difference in how you feel and sleep.

6/6

Supports heart/bone health

Regular sunlight exposure helps lower blood pressure and supports heart health. It also increases Vitamin D levels, which are crucial for maintaining strong bones and reducing the risk of fractures, osteoporosis, and other bone diseases. This makes sunlight a simple way to protect your heart and bones as you age.
