Cocktails that can make you gain weight

When it comes to alcohol consumption, from your health to your weight, everything is at risk. While small proportions of drinks and cocktails does no harm, regular drinking may grievously affect your health and increase your chances of a possible weight gain. As good as they may taste, some alcoholic drinks contain lots of sugar – in the form of syrup, flavouring, etc. – which makes it even higher in calorie. That being said, it is always wise to keep a check on your intake, especially if you’re on a strict weight loss diet. Therefore, to help you maintain a grip on your alcohol consumption, here are some of the cocktails that can make you gain a lot of weight.

2/8

Say no to ‘Margarita’

For a consistent drinker, it may seem hard to skip a refreshing margarita, especially during a wonderful brunch or a relaxing weekend. But a small amount of a margarita can contain over 35 grams of sugar reportedly, which makes it extremely high on calories. So if you’re on a strict diet, it’s best to avoid it.

3/8

Pina coladas are high in calories

Pina Coladas may seem refreshing, but a few of these drinks and your weight loss routine can go for a toss. Filled with sugar and artificial flavoring, it is equal to 300 calories and more than 30 grams of sugar.

4/8

Beer intensifies bloating

Drinking beer is often associated with an increase in body fat, particularly around the belly. Excess beer consumption can cause high inflammation in the stomach and also lead to bloating and weight fluctuations.

5/8

Sangrias aren’t as healthy as you think they are

Many believe Sangria cocktails to be healthy, just because they are made up of fruits and contain chunks of fruits too. However, most of the sangria drinks contain fruit-flavored juices that contain added sugar, which increases your risk of unhealthy weight gain. Therefore, they are not as healthy as you think they are.

6/8

Combination of rum and soft drinks are a big no-no

Many prefer to make their own cocktails and go on to add rum and coke or some other soft drinks together, in order to intensify the taste. However, ones you combine the two it’s going to be a ‘sweet’ adventure or a sugar rush.

7/8

Long island iced teas has no tea in it

Long island iced teas as the name suggest has no tea in it. It only contains a combination of gin, rum, triple sec, and vodka. Due to the number of ingredients involved, Long island iced tea becomes high in calorie, drastically affecting the weight of a person.

8/8

Gin and tonic is loaded with sugary content

Rather than opting for Gin and tonic, it is always advisable to go for gin and sod water. Sweet tonic usually contains loads of sugar, which again makes the entire drink high on calorie count.

Try gin with a dash of tonic water just for taste. Top up the glass with cold water. Drop a slice of lime in the glass if required, after squeezing 2 of three drops from it ( for added flavour)
