Foods to avoid if you want to lose weight and their healthy alternatives

For someone who wants to lose weight, it all comes down to making the right choices in life. Apart from intense workout routines, your diet plays a crucial role in determining your health and wellness. That said, the kind of food choices you make and your eating habits hold great significance when it comes to weight loss. So, if you're really looking forward to shedding some kilos, choose your foods wisely. Some foods that taste heavenly, may actually be adding to your weight. Find out what they are and what you can eat instead.

2/5

Red meat

In terms of nutrients, red meat sure does contain important nutrients such as protein, vitamin B-12, and iron. However, eating it in excess may cause serious harm to your health, increasing your risk of heart disease, certain cancers and more. Additionally, it may also lead to weight gain, which is why it is necessary to find healthy alternatives.

Instead of red meat, you can also try other healthy sources of protein. Seafood, organic poultry and plant-based diet can give you all the nutrients you want, while also keeping a check on your health and weight. It is important that you learn to lose weight safely, rather than eliminating foods entirely.

3/5

Refined grains

Instead of choosing refined grains, choose whole grains which are healthy, fibre-rich and great for your digestive health.

Originally, a grain is whole, meaning it consists of bran, germ and endosperm, which contain essential nutrients. Following the refining process, the grain is deprived of it's healthy elements, reducing it to just a food product with little to no nutrients. This, besides being harmful for health, can also contribute to weight gain.

Alternatively, wholegrain is full of nutrients and great for digestion. It improves immunity and also keeps you full for a longer period of time, aiding weight loss.

4/5

Sweetened drinks/Soda

Anything with added sugar or sweetened is harmful for health and full of calories. Naturally, it adds to your weight, making you prone to obesity and other health issues. Therefore, instead of drinking sweetened beverages, switch to detox drinks, green tea and most importantly water. The best way to aid your weight loss goals is by staying hydrated. Drink plenty of water, so you feel fuller, which keeps your cravings at bay.

5/5

Desserts

Sweets and chocolates are something that everyone relishes. However, it can add to your weight gain woes. That said, if you want to do away with your sugar cravings, have a few squares of dark chocolate every now and then. Research has found that eating dark chocolates can boost mood, improve heart health and can also curb your cravings for unhealthy foods.
